Dear Members and Candidates,

I had the pleasure of seeing many of you at the AGM and Members Cocktail Reception on October 26.

The gathering was an opportunity for us to look back at the 2021–2022 fiscal year, which also marked our Executive Director Jo-Ann Hajdamacha’s first year at the helm of our new administrative team. This has been a big step forward in the development of our Society.

Of the many impactful initiatives implemented in 2021–2022, the signing of the CFA Institute’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Code was a highlight, as was the enrolment campaign for the ESG Certificate in Investing. To date, 196 people have opted for this path, and many others are or soon will be following in their footsteps.

CFA Montréal is proud to have supported the next generation of investment professionals and worked toward advancing women in finance through such activities as FISA’s Women in Finance conference, the AFFQ’s Gala Les Talentueuses, celebrating the distinguished contributions of women in the financial industry, and the Bourstad stock market simulation, which helps high school, college and university students become more familiar with the world of economics and finance.

During the AGM, we also said goodbye to our honorary president, Frederick Chenel, CFA, after eight years of dedicated service. It is truly the end of an era. Frederick has been an incredible ally and an avid ambassador of CFA Montréal. It is with great pride that the entire team at CFA Montréal can assert that he has accomplished his mission with distinction and determination. His influence has helped increase our value in the eyes of our members and within the broader financial and investment industry.

And as one member steps down, another is stepping up. We are honoured to welcome Jessica Younes-Fraiberger, CFA, as our newest director. Jessica comes to us with 20 years of investment experience across a wide range of assets. She is the head of investments at Bloomwest Capital, a private management and investment firm that she co-founded. Her insights will inevitably enrich our discussions and provide a fresh new perspective going forward.

With our 2022–2023 season now well underway, we have been pleased with the turnout to our events, which have been attended by over 350 people. Thank you for coming out and adding your voice to the conversation.

Be sure to take a closer look at our online event calendar for upcoming activities you won’t want to miss.

I would like to thank all the volunteers who help us put together our events and, in so doing, breathe life into our mission. A few who have served on one of our management committees in recent years are now stepping down. We are grateful for everything they have done for CFA Montréal and the financial industry. We would also like to take this opportunity to bid a warm welcome to those who are joining our volunteer committees in 2022–2023.

The About Us page of the CFA Montréal website features updated lists of the members of our three strategic committees and five management committees.

And my last thank-you goes out to you, dear members and candidates. You are the reason we do what we do. By taking part in our events, responding to our queries and contributing to the various initiatives led by CFA Montréal, you are demonstrating your commitment to our profession and helping secure the future of our organization.
