The global 2024 Research Challenge competition, launched by CFA Montréal and CFA Québec on November 22, attracts a record participation of 9 Quebec universities who will compete to carry out an in-depth analysis of a local company.

This unique professional practice, which enables students to demonstrate their knowledge of financial analysis, will highlight their talents as future finance professionals.

During the Analyst Day, the different teams, their professors and their industry coaches attended the presentation by Yan Lapointe, CFA, Director, Investor Relations and Treasury of the company TC Transcontinental.

It is a privilege for participants to delve into the world of this remarkable Quebec family business. Students will have a few weeks to decipher the financial situation of this captivating company, in order to make a convincing presentation and a structured recommendation to the judges in February 2024.

Their contribution to this project is invaluable. We asked TC Transcontinental what motivated them to generously participate in the Research Challenge competition, and why they feel it’s important to support and develop the next generation of finance professionals. We share their point of view with you.

"As a global company with roots in Quebec, TC Transcontinental believes in staying close to the local financial community. The CFA designation is recognized and respected in the financial sector, and we are proud to be associated with CFA Montreal and CFA Quebec. We can count on several CFA members among our employees, who play a key role in the organization by fostering innovation and performance. In a family-controlled corporation like ours, transmission and succession are fundamental values for TC Transcontinental. Over the past 46 years, TC Transcontinental has grown to become a leader with close to 8,000 employees around the world, and it is largely thanks to the expertise and leadership of our finance teams that we have been able to grow responsibly and maintain a healthy financial position. We therefore understand the importance of attracting and retaining future leaders and developing our talent."

We will have to wait until May 2024 to find out if, among these young finance enthusiasts, is the winning team of the world final. We wish the participating teams the best of luck and would like to thank everyone who helped organize Analyst Day on November 22!
