Yesterday marked the kickoff of the local Quebec competition segment of the 2022 CFA Institute Research Challenge. The Research Challenge is an annual international competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. There are four levels to the competition: local, regional/Canadian quarterfinals, semifinals for the Americas and global finals. Its success is reflected in the high turnout from one year to the next. More than 5,000 students, 3,000 volunteers, 900 universities and 150 CFA Societies from 91 countries took part last year alone.

CFA Montréal and CFA Québec are proud to salute the teams sponsored by Concordia, HEC Montréal, Laval and McGill who will be facing off at the local level.

In the coming weeks, the students on each team will examine the outlook of a designated publicly traded Quebec company from a Financial Analyst’s perspective. They will be judged by an expert panel on the quality of their written research report and their buy, sell or hold recommendations. The judges on the panel are volunteer CFA charterholders, as are the graders and the industry mentors who will work with each team.

This year, the selected company for the local competition is WSP Global, one of the world’s largest professional services firms. Headquartered in Montreal, WSP Global has 500 offices in more than 40 countries worldwide. It provides engineering and design services to a wide range of clients in the transportation, infrastructure, property and buildings, environment, energy, resources and industry sectors.
