The local final of CFA Institute’s international Research Challenge competition took place on Friday, February 7, with four teams from the finance programs of Concordia, HEC Montréal, Laval and McGill vying for top honours. Thank you to the CN Investment Division for providing a closer look into their organization on Analyst Day in November. This gave the 23 participating students a chance to analyze the company in more depth for more than two months.

The winners (Olivier Arsenault, Sai Kanthasamy, Pier-Olivier Laflèche and Mitchell McEwen) have been awarded a scholarship to cover the fees for taking a CFA program exam.

CFA Montreal and CFA Québec would like to sincerely congratulate them on the excellent quality of their research and presentation. Many thanks to all the students who took part in the Research Challenge, as well as the professors who played a major role in this experience, which was rewarding in every respect. The competition would not have been possible without the contributions of the judges and graders who were a huge help to organizer Shahenda El Gindi, CFA, Secretary and Responsible for University Relations at CFA Montreal.

Coming up next: our champions will go on to represent Quebec at the Americas Regional by videoconference at the end of April. Best of luck!
