How long does it take to complete the program and earn the designation?

The CFA® Program is divided into three levels, each culminating in a six-hour exam. To complete the program, you must pass each exam. There is no limit to the number of times you may retake an exam, should this become necessary.

You should plan a minimum of six months’ preparation for each exam. To earn the CFA® designation, you must pass all three exams and have at least 48 months of relevant work experience in a CFA Institute-approved field.

Candidates generally require an average of four years to complete the entire program.
