CFA Montréal Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of its partners and members, CFA Montréal is offering several scholarships to candidates per year. Half of them will be awarded to women in an effort to promote a better gender balance in the investment industry.

Four scholarships offered by CDPQ

In its role as a major partner of CFA Montréal, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) backs the association’s initiatives both to help up-and-coming investment professionals build their careers and to increase the proportion of women in the industry.

Accordingly, CDPQ is pleased to be making four new $2,500 scholarships available to university students enrolled at a Montreal institution, two of which will be earmarked specifically for female candidates.

One scholarship offered by Adriana Arrillaga, CFA

A $3,000 scholarship established by Adriana Arrillaga, CFA, for a female CFA Candidate enrolled at Concordia's Goodman Institute of Investment Management and has succeeded in the CFA Level I exam.

Two scholarships from Forum Investissement Alternatif de Montréal (FIAM)

FIAM is also presenting two $1,250 scholarships to a female and a male student with their sights set on becoming a CFA charterholder and who meet the criteria.

How to apply

A selection committee will choose the winners from a short list of candidates, the names of whom will be announced mid-March. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement and involvement in the investment community (Research Challenge, stock market simulations, investment funds, students club, Jeux du commerce, etc.)

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must:
  • Be enrolled at full time in the winter session of 2021, either in the 3rd year of a Bachelor of Commerce or B.A.A., specializing in finance, or in the 2nd or 3rd cycle. For Adriana Arrillaga's scholarship, the candidate must be registered to Concordia's Goodman Institute of Investment Management;
  • Be registered for one of the CFA Institute’s CFA exams that will take place before December 31, 2022 at the time the scholarship is disbursed (note that this requirement will be imposed only after the awards have been announced). For Adriana Arrillaga's scholarship, the candidate must have passed the CFA Exam Level I;
  • Explain why they are deserving of a scholarship in the application form;
  • Submit proof of GPA is the candidate is selected by the Committee

HEC Montréal's preparation programs offer an accessible, practical educational approach that provides all the information required by the CFA Institute to pass the Chartered Financial Analyst program exams. The three programs are offered in English and consist of 14 to 16 sessions each. Participants will have an opportunity to write a three-hour practice exam at the end of each program.

HEC Montréal increases the chances of success by starting the program early and taking things one step at a time. John Molson School of Business at Concordia University

Concordia University's John Molson School of Business is one of Canada's leading business schools. Its MBA in Investment Management with comprehensive training for the CFA designation is available in downtown Toronto and on the school's main campus in Montreal. Offered through the Goodman Institute of Investment Management, this MBA is the only one that includes the entire CFA Institute program in its curriculum. This allows professionals to obtain two internationally recognized titles at the same time.

The curriculum combines MBA courses and preparation for the three Chartered Financial Analyst certification exams. Since the program's inception in 2001, the success rates of students enrolled in the CFA level I exam have been twice as high as the world average. The Research Challenge is a global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. As a team, students are challenged to analyze a publicly traded company and write a research report recommending purchase, sale or status quo.

Each year, more than 5,500 students, 4,000 volunteers, 1,100 universities, 150 local societies and 85 countries take part!

Take the Ethics Challenge!

CFA Societies Canada has been offering the Ethics Challenge since 2014. Based on the principles of ethics and professional excellence promoted by CFA Institute, the Ethics Challenge is intended for university students in finance and business administration. It allows those entering the investment field to prepare for the ethical dilemmas they will face in their workplace.
